Prof. Eng Chye Tan

Professor Tan Eng Chye was appointed President of the National University of Singapore (NUS) on 1 January 2018. He is the University’s 5th president, and the 23rd leader to head Singapore’s oldest higher education institution.

Prof Tan, who attended Raffles Institution (1974 to 1979), obtained his Bachelor in Mathematics (First Class Honours, 1985) at NUS and his PhD (1989) at Yale University. He joined NUS as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics in 1985, as a Senior Tutor, and has held visiting positions at various universities overseas such as the Rutgers University, University of Washington at Seattle, University of California at Berkeley and University of Maryland, USA; Universities of Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan; as well as the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Prof Tan’s research interests are in the Representation Theory of Lie Groups and Lie Algebras; and Invariant Theory and Algebraic Combinatorics. He has been invited to speak in numerous top conferences overseas, and has published more than 20 articles in top internationally-refereed journals and conference proceedings. He has co-authored three books on mathematics, including a well-known graduate text on non-Abelian harmonic analysis.

Prof Tan is a passionate and award-winning educator. He was a pioneer architect of the current academic system in NUS, and has seeded many initiatives such as the Special Programme in Science, University Scholars Programme, University Town Residential College Programme, Grade-free Year, and Technology-enhanced Education. He was recognised with the University Teaching Award for Innovative Teaching in 1998, and was President of the Singapore Mathematical Society (2001 to 2005) as well as the South East Asian Mathematical Society (2004 to 2005).

Prof Tan is on the boards of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR); National Research Foundation (NRF); National University Health System (NUHS); NUS High School of Mathematics and Sciences; and the University of Sharjah. He is a member of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Steering Committee and the immediate former chair of Universitas 21, a leading global network of 27 research-intensive universities. Prof Tan also sits on the International Advisory Council of the Southern University of Science and Technology in China, and is an advisor with the think tank The Conference Board.

Prof Tan received the Public Administration Medal (Gold) at Singapore’s National Day Awards in 2014 for his outstanding contributions to education. He was awarded the Wilbur Lucius Cross Medal, which honours exceptional alumni in the areas of scholarship, teaching, academic administration and public service, by Yale University in 2018. Prof Tan was also conferred an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Southampton in 2018 in recognition of his achievements as “an innovative and exceptional teacher, and then as a distinguished and respected leader in academia”.

In 2022, Prof Tan was conferred the title of Knight of the French Order of the Legion of Honour (Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur) – the highest French distinction for military and civil accomplishments – for his distinguished contributions in education and research.

Christine Loh


Dr Christine Loh is the chief development strategist at Institute for the Environment, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. A lawyer by training and commodities trader by profession, Dr Loh has spent the bulk of her career in public policy and politics, first serving as a legislator, and then government minister in the Environment Bureau in Hong Kong. She was the CEO of a policy think tank and is a published author of many academic and popular works. She is a director of for-profit and non-profit organizations, and she also advises multinational companies.

Johnny Wei


Johnny Wei is the Head of Wholesale Banking for OCBC Hong Kong, overseeing the Bank’s corporate and commercial banking as well as financial institutions business franchise.

In 2016, Johnny joined OCBC Bank as Head of Corporate Banking. Following the management integration of OCBC Hong Kong Branch and OCBC Wing Hang Bank in 2021, Johnny was appointed as Head of Wholesale Banking for OCBC Hong Kong; and has further expanded his role as General Manager of OCBC Hong Kong Branch and Alternate Chief Executive Officer of OCBC Hong Kong in 2023.

Johnny holds an MBA degree from Monash University, Australia, and a Bachelor of Social Science degree (majored in Economics) from University of Hong Kong and is a CPA Australia.

Conrad Wong


Ir Dr Conrad Wong is a professional engineer who has over 30 years of building construction experience. He is the Vice Chairman of Yau Lee Holdings Limited, Managing Director of Yau Lee Construction and REC Engineering Co Ltd. He has a keen interest in green building technologies, Building Information Modeling (BIM), modular and precast construction, and manufacturing automation.

Since 2017, Ir Dr Wong has been putting a great deal of effort in developing various robotic and Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications for the construction industry. He recevied his Doctor of Philosophy Degree at City University of Hong Kong, specializing in adopting AI to optimize energy consumption for large scale central air conditioning system.

Ir Dr Wong is very active in public and community services. Currently, he is appointed as the Chairman of the Council of the Hong Kong Metropolitan University, the Chairman of the New Energy Transport Fund Steering Committee, the Member of the Energy Advisory Committee and the Member of the Town Planning Board. In the past, Ir Dr Wong served as the Deputy Chairman of Vocational Training Council, the Chairman of the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Green Building Council, the President of the Hong Kong Construction Association, the President of the International Federation of Asian and Western Pacific Contractors’ Associations, the Chairman of Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board, the Member of Construction Industry Council, the Member of the Antiquities Advisory Board, the Member of the Advisory Council on the Environment, and the Director of the World Green Building Council.

CK Lau


Mr LAU Chun-kong is the Managing Director of Colliers Hong Kong and Managing Director of Asia Valuation and Advisory Services, responsible for promoting the growth of Colliers’ business in Hong Kong and heading the Asia Valuation and Advisory Services business.
